CURRICULUMS.

Students, who study in Biology faculty in addition to other biological sciences, are also taught following fundamental sciences such as Biochemistry, Enzymology, Biotechnology and Immunology.

Biological chemistry is a science about qualitative composition, quantitative content and transformation that form living substance.

Course “Biochemistry” refers to the fundamental biological disciplines. The main objective of this course is to provide students with comprehensive knowledge on the up-to-date level of the chemical composition of the body, organs, tissues and cells, the chemical structure and properties of organic compounds that form the basis of the organism, their transformation in the life activity of the organism, the regulation of biochemical processes in a living cell, the chemical composition and characteristics of the metabolism of different tissues of the body. The course examines the structure and properties of basic organic compounds that make up living matter, namely proteins, carbohydrates, lipids, nucleic acids, and biochemical transformations, supports the life activity of the body. Particular attention is paid to the mechanisms of regulation of biochemical processes that ensure the functioning of the organism as a whole.

Course «Enzymology» focuses on the chemical nature, characteristics, diversity, intracellular localization of enzymes - biological catalysts for biochemical reactions within. The course discusses the features of enzymatic reactions, their kinetics, the influence of various factors on the enzymatic activity. Attention is also paid to the classification of enzymes and characteristics of each class of enzymes.

Course «Biotechnology» consists of 4 main directions: 1) technical (industrial), Microbiology, and 2) engineering enzymology, and 3) genetic engineering, 4) cell engineering. The course examines each of the 4 directions, special attention is given to applications of biotechnology and its development prospects.

Immunology - this is one of the youngest subjects in biological and medical sciences, separated in independent and perspective science. The objectives of the course «Immunology» is to study the organization of the immune system, cells and

molecules involved in immune responses, mechanisms of immune regulation of the immune response, immunopathology.

Students studying in the specialty Biochemistry, along with the fundamental biological subjects, are also taught «Introduction to the biochemistry», «Static Biochemistry», «Dynamic Biochemistry», «Biochemistry structural elements cells», «Enzymology», «Molecular Biology »,« Biochemistry of microorganisms », « Biochemistry of hormones», «Vitaminology», «Modern methods of biochemistry and a large special practical work ».

The main objective of the course «Introduction to the Biochemistry» is to acquaint students with the history of Biochemistry, with the basic terminology and processes of biological chemistry. This course provides a better learning of subjects such as «Static Biochemistry», «Dynamic Biochemistry», «Enzymology» and others that will be taught to students later.

Course «Static Biochemistry» studies the qualitative and quantitative composition of the substances composing the living matter, and their chemical structure. In this connection, the rate of «Static Biochemistry» consists of several sections and each of them devoted to the study of one of the classes of organic compounds (proteins, carbohydrates, lipids, nucleic acids). Moreover, the objectives of the course also includes discussion of features of the chemical composition of various tissues of the body.

Course «Dynamic Biochemistry» explains the pathway of transformation of organic substances belonging to the organism, the transformation of energy, the synthesis and decay of compounds, as well as the regulation mechanisms of these processes. The course comprehensively explores pathways of anabolism and catabolism of proteins, carbohydrates, lipids and nucleic acids, and the relationship of the exchange pathways of organic compounds.

The main objective of the course «Biochemistry of structural elements of cell» is a more detailed study of the structure, function, and biochemical characteristics of subcellular components.

Course «Enzymology» is essentially similar to those the students are taught in Biology specialty. However more attention is paid to the chemical nature, classification and regulation of enzymatic reactions. Moreover, special attention is given to such industries of medical enzymology, such as enzimopatology, enzimodiagnostics and enzymotherapy.

Course «Vitaminology» devoted to the study of low-molecular biologically active compounds necessary for normal activity and development of an organism, known as vitamins. In this course students will become familiar with the chemical structure, biochemical and physiological roles of vitamins in the body, their metabolism in the body, distribution of vitamins and a daily requirement for vitamins.

Molecular biology is one of the intensively developing and promising life sciences. Course «Molecular Biology» devoted to the study of structure, function and regulation of activity of nucleic acids that form the basis of living matter and provide their stability. The course examines the mechanisms of important processes as transcription, translation and the ways of their regulation.

The objectives of the course «Modern methods of biochemistry and a large special practical textbook» is to acquaint students with chemical laboratory equipment, with the principles of operation of the equipment, to familiarize students with advanced biochemical techniques, with the theoretical and the practical aspects, as well as methods of quantitative analysis of organic compounds in biological objects.
